Welcome to Book Huggers Tutoring! My name is Aubrey Rule and I have a passion for helping students that struggle with reading.
I have been working with kids in many capacities for the last 20 years. I've worked at day camps, science camps, preschools and elementary schools with many kids from all backgrounds. It is a passion!
I taught 5th grade and 3rd grade for 7 years in Denver Public Schools. I developed a love for teaching literacy, but was frustrated that I was not reaching the 20% of students who have reading difficulties. I took my first Orton-Gillingham training in 2016, to work at a reading summer camp, and I was hooked! I implemented as much as I could in my 3rd grade classroom, and saw results!
In 2018 I left the classroom to spend a year with my new son Arlo, and in 2020, when I started looking for another classroom position, COVID hit. I had to pivot, so I started tutoring students online and knew that I had found my new career. I love working one on one with students and seeing them excited about their growth, and seeing their confidence and reading abilities grow!
I currently tutor students at a low-income school in DPS, which has been an incredible experience. I'm finally able to reach that 20% of students that experience reading difficulties.
When I am not working with students, I love sewing, embroidering, gardening and playing outside!
Orton-Gillingham works because it is multi-sensory, engaging. We use a variety of apps, games and activities to keep lessons fun, even online!
Instead of Zoom, we use Koala, an interactive, video platform that was created specifically for tutoring students.
